For the Love of Westies
Welcome to the Maryland Westie Rescue Website!
We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2007 to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home purebred West Highland White Terriers (Westies) and Westie mixes. MWR focuses on Westies in Maryland and surrounding states, often our resources and volunteers allow us to help dogs in states further away. MWR is not a shelter and has no paid employees.
Our Rescue Westies Come from Many Places
Animal shelters and humane societies, private home due to changes in family circumstances, owners realizing that a Westie is not a good match for them, puppy mills, and backyard breeders who have used them as breeding stock. We make sure our rescue Westies are fully vetted to the optimal level of health they can achieve, including being spayed/neutered, and updated on all vaccinations before placement in loving "furever" homes.

We review all qualified applications on file to make the best possible match between the dog's needs and the prospective adopter.
Surrender a Westie
Westies come into our care for many reasons including medical issues of the dog or owner, behavioral issues with dog, moves & relocations, and many other unique reasons.
